A few years back I started vending at vintage shows around the area. I’m a creative and a collector and this was a perfect way to collect, keep for a while and sell so that my kids aren’t forced to endure the pain of seeing me on an episode of extreme hoarders.
One of the many things I love about doing shows are the people you meet and the huge amount of creativity and diverse personalities that these events pull together. Beckie of BK’s Tea Co. is one of my favorite vintage show “finds”. Generally, after getting our booth set up, we have time to wander and look around. That’s when I spotted Beckie’s cute little tea booth. I’m a tea lover from way back and jump at any opportunity to sample new flavors. One sip of the Vanilla Coconut Dream and I was sold. So good. And then I met Beckie…
Talk about personality PLUS with perfect hair. And a tea lover like me. I had a great conversation with her and went home with a bag of that wonderful coconut tea.
Beckie is a perfect example of “if you can’t find what you like out there, create it yourself.” Beckie had a favorite coconut tea that she ordered from a company in Hawaii. When they stopped selling it, she had to find another option. She found a company that she loved and started selling their tea making a small percentage of sales but after taking several tea courses and reading a pile of books on tea education, she realized that she could create her own line of tea, have full control over the quality of ingredients and increase her profit margin.
The first tea in BK’s Tea line was the Vanilla Coconut Dream…
Beckie combined the coconut flavor that she loved with vanilla (who wouldn’t love that combo) to create a tea that remains a best seller. It took almost a year for Beckie to find a wholesale house to buy her tea ingredients from. She wanted the best without having to hire her own tea buyer. After much trial and error and weeding through some bad stale tea, she found a tea partner/wholesale company that could hold up to her standards and work with her to create her dream tea company.
So far, BK’s line consists of 20 blends. Beckie’s goal was to create a tea blend that would be full of flavor and turn those that say that don’t like to tea into tea lovers. Beckie wanted her tea line to be fun flavors with quality ingredients. You won’t find big discussions about what providence the tea was grown in or bags of tea that taste like fresh mowed grass touting huge health benefits. What you will find is a bag of tea with a huge amount of flavor, always fresh quality ingredients and fun flavor combinations. Nothing but the best for people who love flavor and never a boring stale cup of tea.
The Vanilla Coconut Dream and Rum Chai (created for her husband) are consistently top sellers but every tea that I’ve tried in the line has been good. And I love that she has a tea that honors her maternal grandmother; a blend called Royal Rose created in memory of her angel grandma Lois who always smelled of roses. Such a beautiful tribute.
BK’s Coconut Vanilla tea has become my favorite comfort tea. From the smell to the rich flavor, it’s a total mood lifter for me. But the Creamy Peppermint Rooibos is a close second…
Add a little milk and sugar and it’s like a cup full of those amazing butter mints that melt in your mouth.
You can find a full selection of BK’s Tea locally at The Rusty Porch, 2134 Main St. in Springfield Oregon.

To borrow Beckie’s tag line, “It’s always Tea Time.” Yep…a woman after my own heart.
